Sunflowers

October 17th, 2015

Sunflowers

My daughter bought me a lovely bunch of sunflowers this week and I have enjoyed looking at them. Being an artist though, meant I also wanted to photograph and paint them too.

So I have been experimenting with some digital work and watercolour pencils and pen and ink.

One of my paintings is the image on this blog and others can be seen on my padmayogini blogspot.

Exhibition at The Viking Gallery

October 8th, 2015

Exhibition at The Viking Gallery

I am pleased to have a couple of paintings accepted for the Viking Gallery exhibition Thanet Selfies, in Margate Kent.

They are seascapes using water colour pencils, watercolours and acrylic. I used a very thick watercolour paper which allowed me to make many layers of colour and work into the texture of the paper. The exhibition looks good, a variety of styles and mediums shown. The exhibition is on for a few weeks. Gallery open Thursdays to Sundays 12-6pm. Viking Gallery Cliftonville Ave, Margate CT9 2NU

You can see the paintings in my gallery called Seascapes. One of the works is the main logo.

Work on Mr Lion

Work on Mr Lion

I have been working on ideas for an enigmatic character called Mr Lion, with fellow artists from Blank Canvas. I have been putting ideas into a sketch book, more pages on my blogger site, and have produced a painting for an exhibition.
My thoughts and ideas for the work included the use of literal lions to the more shamanistic ideas of a spirit link with lions.
My painting explores the idea that Mr Lion was a shaman who called on the spirit of a lion when needed.

Impressions of the Sea, new work.

Impressions of the Sea, new work.

I have been working on some more seascapes, using a range of sketch books and paper and using some watercolour pencils.
I have both intense watercolour pencils and some new Artbars and I am enjoying using them both together.
I have been putting down layers with the artbars and then using the colour pencils to work on top.
They seem to create a sense of texture, which I am pleased with and they both blend well with water producing some vibrant colours.

I am aiming to create a sense of movement in the sea and sky and energy in the picture with heightened colours.

Margate Carnival

August 20th, 2013

Margate Carnival

The annual Margate Carnival was held on a very hot day, it had me sheltering in some shade while I waited for the parade, I'm not good in too much heat.
The traders were plying their wrigglies, balloons, toffee apples, candy floss and whistles
There were some beautiful costumes, the swans and mechanical lions in particular. Binbot a mechanical sculpture made from wheelie bins was pretty amazing too, though some children were a bit scared of him.
I took my camera for some shots and followed the parade a little way. I am always interested in the creativity people show in making all the floats, costumes and sculptures.

Margate Sketches

Margate Sketches

I have been back down to my local beach enjoying the bit of warmer weather we have been having lately. The colours in the sea were Mediterranean in places, gorgeous blues and greens.I took some photos and walked along the beach to the harbour.

I sat on the new steps by the harbour and focused on the patterns made by the sea and sand on the beach. I'd brought some water soluble coloured pencils and made some quick sketches of the beach. I was just looking for the abstract qualities and the line of the forms left by the water and drying sand.

There are more photographs and sketches on my blog link.
